Bellingen is a gorgeous sleepy little town, just inland from Coffs Harbour. I've been here many many times (relos reside in these parts) and it never seems to change much. It's full-blown hippy territory, but classier than Nimbin.

A short stint along the highway to Coffs, turning inland along Summerland Way towards Grafton. Some tossers in a car decided that it would be fun to tailgate the scooter through the forest - but it didn't end up much fun for them doing 10km/h thru 5 kilometres of twisties coz they couldn't overtake anywhere. Silly boys, when will they learn.

Lunch at Casino, refuel at Kyogle, and over the mountain to Murwillumbah. I vote this the absolute WORST road in NSW. Every corner was corrugated in big wavy ruts - you could not take the corner smoothly because you had to readjust your line to avoid huge mounds of tarmac. The road was patched, repatched and repatched - and then still it was full of potholes. Scenery was nice, but hard to enjoy when you have to concentrate so damn hard on the road surface.

Up the mountain again - and as soon as the border appeared, the road surface improved. The signage was clearer, the corners were marked with advisory signs, the potholes were filled in and the sun came out to play.
