Some days...
Today started as one of those totally forgettable days.
My knee was playing up, ants had invaded my food store, Henry was being sluggish, I was stuck on main roads tangling with trucks and mad French drivers and the 50km detour I made to get something at a camping store was fruitless as they were out of stock.
It is also really helpful to remember the secret hiding spot for your credit card half an hour BEFORE you ring the bank in Australia to cancel it (thinking you've lost it) rather than remember half an hour after.
What a prat!
The afternoon's riding was no better. Henry was less sluggish as I'd filled up with better fuel but it was so incredibly windy I was being blown sideways even with all my weight on. The trucks were giving me no leeway and one decided to overtake on a blind bend. It could have been really bad had there been anyone coming the other way. It wasn't just me he was annoying, he pulled the same trick on a van.
Just as I was ready to write the whole day off as a complete loss, I descended a lovely stretch of road through the forest into Argentat.
A gorgeous town straddling the Dordogne river with a charming riverside walk and cafés. The lady in the tourist office was lovely and I set up camp in the Municipal Camping - 8€!!
I wandered back into town and tortured my knee some more by walking all around the town and along the river. I then parked myself in one of the cafés and had a divine iced coffee.
Perfect cure for the grumps.
