Lauterbrunnen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland

Sad to be leaving Andermatt and the beautiful roads. I have had an amazing week here. I was in no great hurry so I left all my gear at the Youth Hostel and did one last little jaunt up Oberalp Pass.
It was completely devoid of traffic so Henry just flew up the mountain.

Afterwards I loaded him up and trudged slowly up Furka. He did not like it one bit. I found another little detour around the Grimsel tunnel - the original cobbled road cut into the mountain.

Down Furka, up Grimsel, down Grimsel and into Meiringen where I stopped for lunch. My map has a nice sealed road into Grindelwald but from memory, I suspected that it was not open to all traffic. It took me ages to find someone who could confirm this - it is a private road for buses - probably the Post Bus.

So I had to settle for the motorway yet again and reached Lauterbrunnen early afternoon. The Youth Hostel wasn't open so I dumped all the gear and went for another little ride up to Trummelbach Falls. This is a spectacular waterfall which flows inside the mountain. For photos check here.

Back at the hostel I checked in, unpacked and went shopping. I am actually going to COOK tonight. I must be ill.

we call it "Murmeltier" in German, I guess you call it Groundhog... From Sabine, on Jul 25, 2012 at 08:22PM
Really? Like in the movie!
We don't have Groundhogs in Australia - we do have wombats though. From Jacqui Kennedy, on Jul 25, 2012 at 08:32PM
