Santorini at last!!
We slept in!! till 10am !! This is highly unusual for me and as we were supposed to check out at 11, the morning passed in a bit of a haze. The hostel provides breakfast in the courtyard and this consisted of the yummiest yogurt ever topped with muesli and honey. I have never been a huge fan of yogurt but I may convert.
Although we had not bought anything, we had still managed to collect bits and pieces along the way so we packed all our redundant crap into a box to post back to Naomi. I still could not convince the BOSS to part with her makeup or jewellery but my pack seemed considerably lighter. We headed off, fully loaded, to the train station to get the train to Pireaus to get the boat to Santorini stopping at the Post Office on the way. I was rather disappointed to find out that our box of excessive goodies was 1.7kgs overweight and we had to extract stuff and put them back in our packs.
Apart from getting on the wrong boat (and then hurriedly switching to the right one) the trip to Santorini on the SuperFast Ferry was uneventful. There were very few backpackers on board and it seemed to be mostly locals going home for the weekend.
We arrived at Santorini at 9pm and it is difficult to get your bearings when it is dark. We walked into the first "accommodation" booking office we saw and took the first hotel offered at a reasonable price and made sure the bus transfer was thrown in. I have wanted to visit Santorini for many years now and it's a bit of an anticlimax to arrive at night and the only impression you get is the snippets that pass in front of the bus headlights. The hotel seemed to be completely empty except for the girl from the booking office. Perhaps she just earned her kickback but regardless the hotel was quite pleasant and clean even if it had no view whatsoever.
