HAPPY MOTHERS DAY !!!!!!!!!!!
Sunday morning and for an island with hundred's of churches, I didn't see one of them open today or hear one bell ringing.
We "finished" the rest of the island by visiting the Red Beach and having the worse coffee I have tasted so far. The BOSS, dressed in her Aussie flag bikini, was a total wimp and would not even dip her toes in the water.
So instead of going for a swim we discussed our future plans. Crete was supposed to be next on the list but I have been hearing mixed reviews; and then we thought we could see 2 or 3 other smaller islands; or alternatively head straight back to Athens and across to Rome and spend the extra week in Italy. My friend Stuart had emailed to say he had arrived in Italy - and when were we coming?
We tried unsuccessfully to get brochures about other islands from several so-called travel agents - they don't have brochures on other islands, only Santorini. In fact, they don't have any brochures on any other country and they can only book you a flight if you provide the airline, flight number and schedule. This lack of available information is infuriating - I just wish I could get on the internet and investigate our options but web time here is so expensive and they have never heard of free hotspots. Then again, it pleases me immensely that they don't have McCrap or Starbucks on the whole of Santorini so I guess I can't have it both ways.
At dinnertime the BOSS talked me into adventuring down the hill to a seafood restaurant. "Down the hill" is 4kms straight down - most of it on a rough gravel road, so halfway down we hitched a lift to save our knees from buckling completely.
At the bottom was the most charming little fishing village clinging to the crevices and two seafood restaurants. We choose the one with the cute waiter and although the food was superb, the service was terrible.
