Cosmopolitan Como
Slightly tedious day today - mostly on motorways as I had to get to Como in Italy and book Henry III in for some TLC. He's now done nearly 5000kms in 5 weeks so he deserves a little pampering. His indicator switch is still broken so that needs attention - everything else is fine.
I did 150kms on the Swiss motorway to get to Simplon Pass and once again, the traffic was just fine and we had no hassles at all. I really can't believe the stress involved when tangoing with the French drivers - and I have one more stint to look forward to when returning to England.
Simplon Pass was another pure delight. The Swiss side has perfect surface and beautiful long sweeping corners. The Swiss tunnels are always well lit but the Italian ones can be a whole new experience in staying upright in complete darkness. You have to take your sunglasses off or you just can't see a thing and a few times I have been caught off-guard.
I got lost again on the Italian side - they really could learn about good signage from the Swiss. I eventually found the ferry across Lake Maggiore and missed it by 30 seconds. The half hour wait for the next one was not too bad and then the crossing was smooth and pleasant. After that I got really really lost and then stuck in 40kms of peak hour traffic. Poor Henry - it was 33o and he was cooking in his own juices. The campsite was also not easy to find but once settled in, I gratefully drowned myself in the pool (even though it was over-run with screaming horrible children).
Oh - I discovered a new feature on my camera - panorama shots. So now, not only do we have lots of mountain photos, we have them in Panorama!
