Arrivederci, Guten Tag
It seems my time is just racing away from me. Even though I still have 4 weeks to go, I seem to be leaving behind more and more countries. Italy has been great - really really enjoyed my time there and gotta say it truly is the best coffee in Europe.
The ride was uneventful, 250kms, 4 passes, well behaved traffic and lovely sunshine. I followed again JH's recommendations and again he has proved invaluable. He comes up with little gems - like bypassing Flims and going on the backroad to Ilanz - and then spoils it all by spending half a page describing 100€ a night hotels. I'm beginning to think he is on a retainer. Quite a lot of the maps are "inaccurate" and some of the information is out of date but still worth the investment if you are spending any length of time in the Alps.
I had prebooked the Youth Hostel in Andermatt as the campground was just a paddock with no facilities. The hostel is 35Fr (AUD$34) per night for a dorm room with breakfast included and evening meal at extra cost. I would usually opt for a single room as I am long past sharing but none were available. I did manage to get a lower bunk though, as I am still unable to climb ladders.
When I crossed the last pass into Andermatt, I was so very glad I had chosen not to camp. It was drizzling with rain and covered in fog.
